Kenya Air Force Commander, Major General Bernard Waliaula, has earned a prestigious global recognition after being inducted into the International Honour Roll at Air University in Montgomery, United States.
In a statement dated Saturday, April 18, 2026, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) said the honour is reserved for exceptional international officers who demonstrate outstanding academic excellence, exemplary leadership, and go on to serve at the highest levels of command in their respective countries.
Major General Waliaula received the recognition following his stellar performance during his Grade 3 and Grade 1 staff courses at the institution in 1996 and 2011, as well as his distinguished service in the Kenya Air Force.
“The induction is a powerful affirmation of strategic foresight, professional excellence, and unwavering commitment to service,” KDF said in the statement.

KDF also noted that the honour places him among a select group of globally recognised military leaders.
The military added that the recognition also reflects the growing global stature of Kenya’s armed forces, highlighting continued investment in advanced military training, leadership development, and international partnerships.
“As Kenya’s military footprint expands both operationally and diplomatically, such honours reaffirm the country’s reputation for nurturing leaders who excel in command and strategic engagement,” the statement added.
Major General Bernard Waliaula is a senior Kenya Defence Forces officer with nearly four decades of service since joining in 1987.

Commissioned in 1988, he has built a distinguished career in the Kenya Air Force, marked by extensive command, staff, and strategic leadership roles.
He holds master’s degrees in National Security Strategy from China and Military Operational Art and Science from the United States, alongside advanced military training. Throughout his career, he has commanded key units including an Air Defence Squadron and Laikipia Air Base, and held senior administrative and logistics roles at Air Force Headquarters.
Promoted to Major General in 2022, he served as Director General of Defence National Security Industries, where he advanced innovation and self-reliance in defence production. He was appointed Commander of the Kenya Air Force in June 2025, leading efforts to safeguard Kenya’s airspace and modernize the service.
He is a recipient of several honours, including the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS).
