Easy Coach Announces New Bus Fares After Fuel Price Hike

Share

Easy Coach has announced new bus fares effective Monday, April 20, 2026, following a recent fuel price increase by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA). The company says the revision is necessary due to rising operating costs, especially fuel expenses.

The transport operator noted that higher fuel prices have significantly increased the cost of running long-distance routes. As a result, passengers travelling from Nairobi to western Kenya will now pay more under the revised structure.

Routes to Kisumu, Siaya, Maseno, Butere, and Ndori–Bondo–Usenge will now cost Ksh1,900, up from previous rates. Meanwhile, travellers heading to Ugunja, Bumala, and Busia will pay Ksh1,950, making these the highest-priced routes in the updated list.

In addition, passengers travelling to Kakamega, Mumias, Webuye, and Kimilili will now pay Ksh1,800, while fares to Kitale have increased to Ksh1,850. The Nairobi–Eldoret route has been set at Ksh1,700, reflecting a moderate adjustment.

Breakdown of Key Fare Changes

  • Ksh1,900 routes: Kisumu, Siaya, Maseno, Butere, Ndori–Bondo–Usenge
  • Ksh1,950 routes: Ugunja, Bumala, Busia
  • Ksh1,800 routes: Kakamega, Mumias, Webuye, Kimilili
  • Ksh1,850: Kitale
  • Ksh1,700: Eldoret

Southern Nyanza Remains Relatively Affordable

Despite the increases, fares to Southern Nyanza remain comparatively lower. Passengers travelling to Kisii, Homa Bay, Kendubay, Migori, and Rongo will now pay between Ksh1,550 and Ksh1,600.

Notably, these routes remain the cheapest under the new pricing structure, offering some relief to commuters heading to the region.

Industry Trend as Operators Adjust Prices

Easy Coach’s review comes just days after Ena Coach raised its fares on April 15, 2026, pointing to a broader trend in the transport sector. Ena Coach now charges Ksh2,000 for the Nairobi–Mombasa route and Ksh1,800 for travel to upcountry destinations via Nakuru.

In addition, passengers moving between Mombasa and upcountry towns now pay up to Ksh3,000 in either direction, highlighting a sharp rise in long-distance travel costs.

Consequently, transport operators have faced higher costs in fuel, maintenance, and logistics. Many companies say the pressure has left them with no option but to adjust fares to remain sustainable.
