Kenyan Footballer Killed in Road Accident

Kenyan footballer Gabriel Wandera, who previously played for Tusker FC and Kakamega Homeboyz FC, has died following a road accident in Busia County.

According to reports, the defender lost his life on the morning of Sunday, April 19.

This is after he was involved in a hit and run incident in Busia where he had been playing for Division Two side Bossman Knights.

His death was confirmed by Bossman Knights in a statement shared on social media, in which the club expressed its grief over the loss of the player.

Football Fraternity Mourns

“We’ve confirmed our worst fears. Gabby was tragically struck by a car. This is a deeply painful moment for all of us. May Gabby rest in peace,” the club said in the statement.

The incident occurred just hours after Wandera had featured for Bossman Knights in a match against Khwilare FC, where his side suffered a 3–1 defeat.

Reports indicate that the vehicle involved in the hit and run fled the scene immediately after the collision, with authorities expected to launch investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police have not issued a statement though local reports suggest inquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the driver and the events leading up to the crash.

Where The Deceased Contributed

During his playing career, Wandera also featured for Bidco United and Nzoia Sugar, where he built a reputation as a dependable and disciplined defender across several Kenyan football league teams.

He was regarded as a consistent team player who contributed both defensively and in building play from the back.

Following confirmation of his death, messages of condolence began streaming in from across the football fraternity.

The Football Kenya Federation Busia branch have also mourned him and describing him as committed and dedicated during his time at Bossman Knights in Division Two football.

His death has since drawn reactions from teammates, fans, and football officials who remembered him for his contribution to the clubs he represented throughout his career in Kenyan football, with many expressing shock over his sudden demise.
