The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) has revoked the accreditation of the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) and ordered the immediate closure of the institution and all its campuses across the country, citing serious regulatory violations.
In a public notice dated April 20, 2026, the Authority said it had established that KIM was offering and awarding academic and professional programmes to members of the public without proper accreditation.
The regulator emphasized that while KIM had previously been accredited to offer programmes assessed and certified under the TVET framework, it had since deviated from those requirements.
“It has come to the attention of the Authority that the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) is offering and awarding various academic and professional programmes to members of the public without accreditation,” the notice states.
According to TVETA, investigations revealed that KIM continued to operate in violation of statutory provisions under the TVET Act Cap 210A.
The Authority outlined specific breaches, including offering unapproved programmes and issuing academic qualifications outside the legal framework.
“To offer programs that are not approved and award academic qualifications in contravention of Section 17(3) of the TVET Act Cap 210A,” the notice reads, adding, “to engage trainers without valid training licenses as required by Section 23(1) of the TVET Act Cap 210A.”
The regulator further declared that KIM lacks the legal mandate to award qualifications, effectively invalidating its recent academic outputs.
“The public is hereby notified that KIM does not have the legal mandate to award qualifications,” TVETA stated.

In a move likely to affect thousands of learners and graduates, the Authority announced that all certificates, diplomas, and qualifications issued by KIM beyond 2018 would not be recognized for employment, further education, or professional advancement.
“Consequently, any certificates, diplomas, or other qualifications obtained from the institution beyond 2018 are not recognized for purposes of employment, further education, or professional advancement,” the statement adds.

TVETA invoked Sections 36 and 37 of the TVET Act to formally revoke the accreditation and shut down all KIM campuses nationwide with immediate effect.
The Authority underscored that the move is part of broader efforts to enforce compliance and protect the integrity of Kenya’s technical education system.
“Pursuant to Section 36 and 37 of the TVET Act the accreditation earlier issued to KIM and all its campuses in the Republic of Kenya has been revoked and all KIM campus closed with immediate effect,” the notice declares.
Members of the public have been cautioned to exercise due diligence before enrolling in any institution.
“Members of the public are therefore advised to exercise caution while engaging with KIM and to verify the accreditation status of any institution before enrolling in any programme of study,” TVETA warned.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining standards in the sector, stating that it, “remains committed to safeguarding the integrity and quality of training in Kenya and will take appropriate action against institutions operating outside the legal framework.”
