Deputy Auditor General Fredrick Odhiambo Dies After Short Illness

The Office of the Auditor-General (OAG) has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Deputy Auditor General (DAG) CPA Fredrick Oluoch Odhiambo.

In a statement released on Thursday, October 2, 2025, Auditor-General Nancy Gathungu confirmed that Odhiambo passed away earlier in the day after a short illness.

She described his death as a “sudden and tremendous loss” to both his family and the OAG fraternity.

“It is with profound sadness that I convey to you the sudden passing of CPA Fredrick Oluoch Odhiambo – Deputy Auditor General (FAS2). DAG Fredrick passed on today, 2 October 2025, after a short illness,” the statement read in part.

A Distinguished Career in Public Audit

Fredrick Odhiambo had risen through the ranks to serve as Deputy Auditor General, playing a critical role in strengthening public sector accountability in Kenya.

Colleagues remember him as a focused and committed leader whose contributions extended beyond national borders to the global public auditing community.

According to the Auditor-General, Odhiambo’s leadership had been instrumental in pushing reforms within the OAG and enhancing accountability in the management of public funds.

His professional background as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) earned him recognition and respect among peers within the accounting and auditing sector.

Tributes and Condolences

The Auditor-General eulogized Odhiambo as a leader whose dedication to public service left an indelible mark on the institution.

“DAG Fredrick has been a focused leader who has made great contributions to the Office of the Auditor-General, the Nation and the global public sector auditing community,” Gathungu noted.

She further appealed to staff, colleagues, and the public to keep his family, friends, and loved ones in their prayers during this difficult time.

The OAG indicated that further details on funeral arrangements and official communications will be provided after consultations with Odhiambo’s family.

National and Institutional Loss

The death of Odhiambo comes at a time when the OAG continues to play a critical oversight role in safeguarding transparency and accountability in the use of public resources.

His passing is expected to leave a significant gap in the leadership of the institution.
