Police in Nairobi have recovered property believed to have been stolen from a church in the city’s Eastlands area, following an early morning patrol operation that disrupted a suspected theft in progress.

Officers attached to the Kenya Police Service and based at Obama Police Station made the recovery while conducting routine surveillance within Kayole Sub-County.

The operation took place in the Mwengenye Saika area, a locality that has recently been under increased police scrutiny due to rising concerns over petty crime and break-ins.

Police said the officers became suspicious after spotting two individuals carrying luggage in what they described as an unusual and evasive manner along Dandora Bridge.

“The officers on patrol spotted two individuals carrying luggage in a suspicious manner along Dandora Bridge,” the statement indicated.

“The suspects, upon noticing the officers, abandoned the items and fled the scene,” police added, noting that no arrests were made at the time of the incident despite a brief attempt to pursue the individuals on foot.

Recovered Items and Link to Church Break-In

A subsequent search of the abandoned luggage revealed a range of items, including assorted household goods and electronic equipment.

Investigators also recovered a metal bar, which officers believe may have been used to gain forced entry into a building.

“A search of the recovered items revealed assorted household goods and electronic equipment, as well as a metal bar suspected to have been used to facilitate a break-in,” the police confirmed.

Preliminary investigations have since linked the recovered property to a reported burglary at Full Gospel Mission Church located in the Mowlem Powerline area.

“Preliminary investigations established that the items had been stolen from Full Gospel Mission Church in the Mowlem Powerline area,” the statement added.

As a result of this unfortunate incident, police have increased patrols in the areas of Mwengenye Saika and Mowlem and other nearby locations.

“The investigations are continuing to apprehend the suspects,” added the police.
