Students in Kenya applying for higher learning institutions are encouraged to personally ensure that their placement is legitimate, that the courses they have registered for are legitimate, and that the institutions offering the courses are accredited according to national standards.
The central body responsible for the placement of universities, colleges, TVET, and KMTC is the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
Students are expected to confirm admissions details via the website using approved credentials.
The service has also come up with other ways of confirming, such as SMS confirmation and revision placements, which allow the consideration of all candidates eligible for admission.
In accordance with the guidelines from KUCCPS, the verification of placements is done by using the student portal located at the following web address: https://students.kuccps.net.
The system necessitates that students log in with their KCSE index number, year of examination and password.
Once the students log into the system, they are able to view allocation of institutions, entry requirements and the cut-offs for the respective programs, both degrees, diplomas, and certificates.
Candidates are now in a position to assess whether their KCSE cluster points meet the specified criteria before accepting placement offers.
There is also an SMS facility by which the candidate sends their index number to 20842 to verify placements.
The Commission for University Education (CUE) is the designated body responsible for the regulation of university education in Kenya.
According to the Universities Act, only the Commission for University Education has the mandate to issue University Charters or Letters of Interim Authority, which dictate the status of recognition of an institution.
The CUE Commission evaluates and accredits academic programs at all levels, from bachelor’s degree programs, postgraduate master’s degree programs, up to PhD Programs.
All programs must meet a specified minimum level of academic standards, infrastructure requirements and institutional governance.
The commission performs inspections and quality audits on the universities to ensure that they are compliant with the established regulations.

Inspections are conducted based on the academic quality of teaching and learning, staffing, infrastructure, and institutional governance.
A list of accredited institutions and programs in the CUE portal or UEMIS can be accessed at https://www.cue.or.ke.
This includes institutions offering recognized programs locally and internationally to Kenyan students.
KNQA, on the other hand, offers another level of verification through the management of the national qualifications framework as well as the standardization of qualifications at both academic and professional levels.

Students may access the NAQMIS system to search the National Qualification Database (NQD) to verify whether a particular educational institution or awarding body has been officially recognized.
KNQA also runs the Qualifications Alignment and Validation Portal (QAV) through which individuals may verify whether a particular course offered meets the National Qualification Framework (NQF).
The NQD also contains the list of approved Quality Assurance Bodies (QABs), enabling students to establish the validity of the institutions they intend to join.
