Atleast 7 Killed as Overnight Russian Strikes Hit Multiple Ukrainian Cities

Share

At least seven people have died after a night of intense Russian attacks hit several cities across Ukraine, destroying homes and leaving rescue teams searching through debris for survivors.

The hardest hit area was Dnipro, where officials said five people were killed after a missile struck an apartment building.

The blast caused major damage and trapped residents inside. By Saturday morning, emergency workers were still digging through the wreckage in hopes of finding more survivors.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attack stretched through the night, putting pressure on rescue teams and residents alike.

In the north, the city of Chernihiv also came under attack, leaving two people dead. Other cities, including Odesa and Kharkiv, were also targeted during the same wave of strikes.

Ukraine Repels Majority of Drones

Ukrainian officials said Russia launched more than 600 drones overnight. Air defence systems stopped most of them and reduced the level of damage.

“The Russians’ tactics have not changed: strike drones, cruise missiles and a significant amount of ballistics,” Zelensky wrote.

“Most of the targets are ordinary infrastructure in cities. Residential buildings, energy, and enterprises have been damaged,” he added.

Meanwhile, the attacks raised concern in neighbouring Romania. British fighter jets based there took off after drones were detected near the border. However, the UK Ministry of Defence said the jets did not enter Ukrainian airspace and did not shoot down any drones.

Ukraine Hits Targets Inside Russia

At the same time, Ukraine carried out drone strikes inside Russia. In Yekaterinburg, far from the border, a building was hit and six people were injured. In nearby Chelyabinsk, local officials said drones targeting an industrial site were stopped.

Russia’s defence ministry said it shot down 127 Ukrainian drones across several regions. It also claimed its forces had taken control of Bochkove, a village in the Kharkiv region. However, Ukraine has not confirmed this claim.

Overall, the latest attacks show the fighting remains intense. Both sides continue to use drones and missiles, while civilians face the greatest impact.
