The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the restoration of traffic flow along the Iten Kabarnet Road near Kolol after a disruption which was caused by a landslide.
In a public notice that was released on April 29, 2026, KeNHA confirmed that the affected section, which had been previously impassable due to heavy rainfall, is now accessible to motorists.
KeNHA said the landslide had blocked the road after persistent rains triggered soil movement in the area, cutting off a key transport link between Iten and Kabarnet.
The incident is part of a wider pattern of weather-related disruptions that are being experienced across the country, with the ongoing heavy rains which led to flooding and landslides in several regions.
The Iten Kabarnet Road, which is on a hilly terrain, is particularly vulnerable to such occurrences during prolonged rainfall.
This often affects transport and local movement.

KeNHA noted that emergency response measures were undertaken to clear debris and restore the road within the shortest time possible.
However, KeNHA cautioned that conditions in the area are still stabilizing and urged motorists to exercise caution while using the route.
“Motorists are advised to continue exercising caution and to strictly adhere to instructions issued by police officers and traffic marshals on site to ensure their safety,” the notice stated.
The authority also expressed appreciation to road users for their patience and cooperation during the period of disruption.
The restoration comes as relief to residents and transport operators who rely on the route for movement of goods and also access to essential services, especially in the agriculturally active North Rift region.
