Nakuru serves as the largest urban hub in the Rift Valley, surpassing all other Rift Valley ‘s counties.

In 1988, the park was designated as a rhino sanctuary.

It was also designated a Ramsar site in 1990 and an important Bird Area in 2009.

The park is renowned around the world for having a large flamingo population .

Great white pelicans that nest nearby in Lake Elementaita use it as a vital feeding ground.

The park is a home to 56 different kinds of mammals and over 50 different bird species.

Lake Nakuru National Park

It is one of the lakes in Rift Valley known for it’s breathtaking flamingos on its shores .

The lake’s profusion of algae draws a large number of flamingos on the shoreline.

There are also plenty of warthogs, baboons,rhinos, Giraffes and birds.

The finest viewing point is from the Baboon Cliff and the quantity of flamingos on the lake changes with water and food conditions.

The park boosts a magnificent escarpment and picturesque ridges.

All tourists vehicles entering and operating in Lake Nakuru National Park are charged fees per day depending on the carrying capacity of the vehicle.

Entry fees for citizens is Ksh600 for adults and children Ksh215.

For non-residents it’s Ksh5168 for adults and Ksh2584 for children.

Menengai Crater

It has one of the largest calderas in the world,the second largest volcano caldera in Africa and in Kenya

The floor of the caldera is covered in numerous post-volcanic lava flows.

The Menengai volcano has a fairly well-preserved caldera in the style of krakatau.

It offers stunning views of nearby Lake Nakuru and Lake Bogoria as well as the depths of the crater.

Hiking, picnicking, camping and photography are all possible on this towering edifice to geological upheaval.

The crater is also believed to be a very spiritual place and people come from far to spend time praying and contemplating.

It is located near Nakuru . Entrance fee for both adults and children is Ksh282 and Ksh88 respectively.

Hyrax Hill Museum

It is named after hyrax a small mammal that inhabits rocky places.

The Museum is composed of several habitation hollows believed to have been inhabited by the Sirikwa Pastoral Group who were later assimilated to the Kalenjin.

The site has an archaeological section which displays brief description of the Hyrax hill, a model showing Sirikwa settlement, early man stone tools and the map of Kenya showing where pre-historic sites in Kenya and where they’re located.

It is located along the Nairobi -Nakuru Highway.

The entrance fee is Ksh100 and Ksh50 for Kenyan adults and children.

For the residents it’s Ksh400 and Ksh200 for adults and children.

Njoro River Cave

It is a natural limestone cave located in Mau escarpment.

The cave has been used as a shelter by humans for thousands of years.

It was later used as a refuge by maasai warriors during times of conflict and has also been used as a place to explore.

The cave floor is made up of small rocks and gravel.

There are several small chambers inside the cave as well as few tight spots that can be a bit tricky to navigate.

The best part about the cave is the river that runs through it .

The water is Cristal clear and makes for a refreshing swim on a hot day .

It is a home to different wildlife including bats, monkeys and snakes.

Lord Egerton Castle

The main reason for the construction of the castle was because Lord Egerton wanted to impress his loved fiancée who had turned down his marriage proposal because he lived in a small house.

The castle offers activities like football,ball games, picnic safari,rope skipping,hide and seek.

Tourists can also be able to see some of the ancient machinery, equipment and gadgets that were used during the colonial period.

Nyayo Gardens Park

It is a public park that has undergone significant renovations to enhance it’s appeal as a recreational space.

The park features well-maintained lawns,shaded areas and walking paths providing a serene environment for relaxation and leisure activities.

It is used for state functions, political rallies, cultural events and social gatherings.

Beside, it also houses a bronze statue of Wangari Maathai

Fischers Tower

Fischers Tower is in Hell’s Gate and a home to a diverse array of fauna.

The region is a home to giraffes, buffaloes,lions, leopards and other animals.

It has a great trial for hiking, provides cool stroll along serene nature paths
