Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua described the late medic as a principled and courageous professional who dedicated his life to saving lives and standing for truth.
“It is with deep sorrow that I have learnt of the passing of Dr. Job Obwaka, a renowned Obstetrician-Gynaecologist and Board Director at the Nairobi Hospital,” said Gachagua.

In his message, Gachagua also criticised the government, linking Dr Obwaka’s death to what he termed as harassment and mistreatment by authorities.
He referenced the doctor’s arrest on March 14, 2026, when the 83-year-old was reportedly detained at Muthaiga Police Station after being picked up from his clinic at the NSSF Building.
Gachagua noted that Dr Obwaka fell ill while appearing at Milimani Law Courts and required medical attention, adding that the experience left him “traumatised” despite his release on a Ksh 5 million bond.

He praised the late doctor’s decades of service, leadership and mentorship within the medical field.
“Dr Obwaka devoted his life to advancing medical practice in Kenya, leaving an invaluable contribution to the medical fraternity through his clinical excellence, leadership and mentorship of generations of practitioners,” said Duale.
Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Nelson Havi claimed that alleged harassment by the government, interference in the management of Nairobi Hospital, and what he termed as trumped-up charges contributed to the deterioration of Dr Job Obwaka’s health and his eventual death.
He said he was both saddened and angered by the developments.
Havi also hit back at Health CS Aden Duale, accusing the government of playing a role in the doctor’s death. He criticised Duale’s message of condolence as “morbid and cynical,” adding that there had been silence from authorities when the doctor was allegedly abducted and detained over a weekend.
