Kenyan Man Killed in Russia-Ukraine War After Job Lure

Share

A family in Kirinyaga County has been thrown into mourning after their 23-year-old son allegedly died during the Russia-Ukraine war after being tricked into traveling abroad through the promise of employment.

Relatives of Eric Mwangi Nyambura from Githaiti village in Ndia Constituency claim that he flew out of Kenya in 2025 after a friend allegedly promised him a better-paying job in Russia.

“He informed us he had found a job which he said would change his life. We never thought that he would meet such a death,” said his mother, Joyce Nyambura Mundia.

Tragic Circumstances and Escalating Fears

His family stated that they only managed to give Ksh 10,000 for processing his passport before he traveled.

“After 3 days, Eric was in Russia, and we did not have much time to question since he travelled too fast,” Joyce stated.

Pauline Wanjiku Nyambura, his sister, stated they had managed to stay in touch immediately after his arrival in October 2025 until things began to change.

“He informed me that he had undergone military training, after which they took him to the frontline. We grew worried after that,” Pauline explained.

Panic levels escalated in December 2025 after they received a worrying message from their son.

“He told us he met other Kenyans in the war and could not confirm if he was safe. The message still haunts us,” Pauline said.

Unanswered Calls, Internet News, and a Plea for Justice

The last communication from their son was on January 8, 2026.

The family confirmed that Eric read their messages but did not respond, and since then, they have never heard from him.
They later received news that their son had been killed via the internet, after reading his name on a page associated with the war.

The family has appealed to the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi, to assist them as they demand justice and the return of the body.

They have also accused a suspected agent by the name of “Siz Maria” of facilitating his trip.

“She just asked for a passport, then went missing immediately after he flew out. We strongly suspect that she is aware of his whereabouts,” the family stated.
