Motorists using the Iten-Kabarnet Road can now resume normal travel after authorities confirmed that traffic flow has been fully restored at Kolol section, which had been temporarily blocked by a landslide.
The update was issued by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on May 5, 2026, following days of disruption caused by heavy rainfall across the country.
The affected section of the road had been rendered impassable after a landslide brought down debris, blocking movement and forcing a temporary closure.
The incident was linked to persistent heavy rains experienced in several parts of the country.
KeNHA confirmed that restoration works were completed, allowing traffic to resume along the busy route.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority wishes to notify motorists and the public that traffic flow along the Iten-Kabarnet Road near Kolol has been restored,”read the notice.
The authority added that the reopening follows clearance of the blocked section and stabilization of the area.

During the closure period, motorists were advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays and congestion.
These included the Iten – Eldoret -Eldama Ravine – Kabarnet corridor, which helped ease movement while clearance works were ongoing.
KeNHA confirmed at the time that restoration teams were deployed immediately to clear debris and reopen the road as quickly as possible.
“Restoration efforts are currently underway, and the Authority is working to reinstate normal traffic flow as soon as possible,” said Eng. Kimeli.

Despite the reopening, road users have been urged to remain cautious while using the stretch, especially as weather conditions remain unpredictable.
“Motorists are advised to continue exercising caution and to strictly adhere to instructions issued by police officers and traffic marshals on site to ensure their safety as conditions stabilize.”
KeNHA also thanked motorists for their patience during the disruption period.
“KeNHA appreciates the cooperation, patience, and understanding demonstrated by motorists during this period.”
