Kenyan Mourns as Former Lionesses Coach Felix Oloo Dies in U.S Accident

Former Kenya Lionesses head coach and Nakuru Rugby Football Club player Felix Oloo has died following a tragic road accident in the United States, sending shockwaves across Kenya’s rugby fraternity.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Monday when Oloo attempted to cross Interstate 405 in Bothell, Washington. A vehicle struck him during the crossing, leading to his death.

Authorities in the United States have since launched investigations to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

Meanwhile, Nakuru Rugby Football Club confirmed his passing in a statement.

“It is with deep sorrow that the Nakuru Rugby fraternity announces the sudden passing of Felix Ade Oloo on May 4, 2026 following a tragic road accident,” the club said.

“Felix was a dedicated servant of the game, a coach, mentor, and leader whose contribution to Nakuru Rugby and the wider rugby community was immense,” they added, paying tribute to his legacy in the sport.

Distinguished Playing Career

Oloo built a strong reputation during his playing days at Nakuru Rugby Football Club. He joined the club in 2003 and remained a key figure until 2017. During that period, he helped the team secure back-to-back Kenya Cup titles in the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 seasons.

Moreover, his leadership on the pitch earned him respect across the rugby community. Teammates and opponents alike admired his discipline, consistency and deep understanding of the game.

Rise to National Coaching Role

After retiring from active play, Oloo transitioned into coaching. He quickly rose through the ranks and eventually took charge of the Kenya Lionesses, the national women’s rugby team.

Under his leadership, the team improved its competitiveness on the international stage. At the same time, he focused on building a strong structure that supported long-term growth in women’s rugby.

Olympic Qualification Milestone

Notably, Oloo achieved one of his biggest milestones when he guided the Kenya Lionesses to qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. This achievement marked a historic moment for the team and elevated the profile of women’s rugby in Kenya.

As a result, many within the sport recognized his tactical strength and commitment to excellence.
