Kenya Airways Announces Resumption of Dubai Flights

Share

Kenya Airways has announced that it will resume flights between Nairobi and Dubai starting May 14, 2026, after suspending operations earlier this year due to security concerns linked to tensions in the Middle East.

In a customer update issued on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, the national carrier confirmed that it will initially operate daily flights between the two cities, with plans to increase frequencies gradually depending on demand and operational needs.

“Flights to and from Dubai will resume on 14th May 2026,” Kenya Airways said.

The airline added that daily flights will operate between Nairobi and Dubai, while more flights may be introduced progressively.

Kenya Airways also assured customers that passenger and crew safety remains its main priority as operations resume.

“The safety of our guests and crew remains our top priority,” the airline stated.

Why Flights Were Suspended

Kenya Airways suspended several scheduled flights to Dubai on February 28 after several countries in the Gulf region closed their airspace following attacks involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

The crisis escalated after the US and Israel launched joint attacks on Iran, prompting retaliatory strikes by Iran targeting countries in the Gulf region, where it claimed the attacks had been launched from.

Countries that temporarily closed their airspace included the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Israel, Iraq, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait.

The disruption affected thousands of travelers across the Middle East and forced airlines to suspend or reroute flights.

Repatriation Flight Also Suspended

On March 6, Kenya Airways also suspended a planned repatriation flight that was meant to bring stranded Kenyans back home from Dubai.

At the time, the airline cited fresh security guidance from Dubai airport authorities.

In an earlier statement, KQ said,“We have suspended today’s repatriation flight to and from Dubai following security guidance from Dubai Airport authorities.”

The airline maintained that the move was necessary to protect passengers and crew amid the unstable security situation in the region.
