Kenya Airways has announced disruptions on its Abidjan-Dakar-Abidjan-Nairobi route following a bird strike incident involving one of its aircraft during landing in Abidjan earlier on Friday.
In a customer update issued on Thursday, May 14, by the airline, Kenya Airways confirmed that the aircraft experienced the incident upon arrival in the Ivorian city, forcing the airline to temporarily suspend normal operations on the affected route as mandatory technical inspections and maintenance checks commence.
“We wish to inform our customers that one of our aircraft operating into Abidjan experienced a bird strike incident upon landing earlier today,” the airline stated.
The airline further explained that the affected aircraft would remain grounded temporarily to allow engineers and technical teams to conduct detailed safety assessments in accordance with aviation operational standards and international maintenance regulations.
According to the airline, the incident has directly disrupted the Abidjan-Dakar-Abidjan-Nairobi service, affecting passengers who were scheduled to travel between the West African cities and Nairobi.
“As a result, there will be disruptions to the Abidjan-Dakar-Abidjan-Nairobi service as the aircraft undergoes the necessary technical inspections and maintenance in line with safety and operational procedures,” Kenya Airways added.
The airline, however, emphasized that passenger and crew safety remains its top priority as efforts continue to restore normal operations within the shortest time possible.

The carrier also revealed that it had already begun contacting passengers affected by the disruption to offer support, including possible alternative travel arrangements and customer assistance during the period of interruption.
“We are also proactively reaching out to affected customers to provide assistance and alternative travel arrangements where necessary as we work to manage the disruption and restore normal operations,” the statement added.
