CDF Kahariri Reveals Changes in KDF Recruitment Process

Share

The Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, has called on recruitment officers to maintain integrity, transparency, and professionalism as the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) begins its nationwide recruitment exercise.

Speaking during a briefing session at Defence Headquarters in Nairobi, General Kahariri underscored that public trust in the military depends on a recruitment process grounded in fairness and merit.

He emphasized that the exercise is not only a gateway for new entrants but also a reflection of the KDF’s values and reputation.

“The reputation of the KDF has been built over decades of discipline and service to the nation,” General Kahariri said.

“This exercise must reflect our core values of integrity, patriotism, and excellence. Technology is now at the heart of our recruitment process, and it is our duty to ensure it is used effectively to eliminate human interference and corruption.”

Technology to Curb Malpractice

The CDF revealed that the KDF has integrated technology into its recruitment process to enhance verification and eliminate loopholes for malpractice.

He cautioned officers that any act of corruption or misconduct would attract immediate and severe disciplinary action.

According to him, corruption not only tarnishes the image of the KDF but also poses a threat to national security by compromising the quality of individuals joining the Force.

He reminded officers that Kenyans expect transparency and fairness, and that “the public is watching and expects the KDF to remain a symbol of integrity and national unity.”

Merit-Based Selection Emphasized

Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Ketter, echoed the CDF’s sentiments, stressing the vital role of recruitment officers as the first link between the military and the public.

He urged officers to ensure that only the most qualified candidates are selected purely on merit.

Digital Systems for Real-Time Monitoring

Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics, Major General Edward Rugendo, added that digital data management systems would be deployed to record recruitment progress in real time.

This, he said, would guarantee fairness and consistency across all recruitment stations.

The nationwide recruitment exercise is set to take place in all counties from October 13 to 25, 2025, marking one of the most extensive drives by the KDF in recent years.
