Last night, the Kenya Red Cross rushed to the scene after a fire broke out at Tarakwo High School in Bomet County.
Red Cross stated that this is the fifth school fire this year, following the devastating fire at Utumishi Girls Academy earlier this year.
No fatalities were reported in the latest incident.
“Kenya Red Cross has since the beginning of the year responded to 37 school fire incidents that have occurred in various counties,” stated Kenya Red Cross.
The post further mentioned the number of fires being a reflection of an increasing concern over school fire safety nationwide.
“While there were unfortunately no casualties reported last night, these ongoing occurrences are a somber reminder on the immediate need for school fire prevention and safety measures,” Kenya Red Cross noted.

Investigation Into the Utumishi Girls’ Academy Fire and Related School Arsons
This comes five days after 16 students died in a dormitory fire at Utumishi Girls’ Academy on Thursday, May 28th.
Eight students have been identified and arrested by Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) as primary suspects in an attempted arson attack at Utumishi Girls’ Academy, which saw 16 girls killed and 79 others injured.
Authorities stated school dormitories have in recent weeks become an increasing concern after fires were reported at Miranda Boys, Nguumo Boys, and Magereza Academy in the weeks before this event.

Lenana School parents also rushed to school after the board of management ordered an immediate closure, as chaos gripped prep time at the school last night.
“It was necessary to send home all our students and restore calm before a thorough assessment was done.” Stated Lenana High Board.
The move is fueled by increased fear from parents of schools following the Utumishi Girls’ Academy fire that razed its dormitory in Gilgil, leaving 16 dead and 73 injured.
A Red Cross team is currently on the ground in Bomet assessing the needs and supporting the community.
