The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary traffic disruption affecting a section of Mombasa Road and the Nairobi Expressway between Airtel Complex and General Motors.
In a public notice issued on June 11, 2026, KeNHA said a section of the Mombasa-bound carriageway of Mombasa Road (A8) and both carriageways of the Nairobi Expressway will be closed for 24 hours from 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, to 10 p.m. on Sunday, June 14.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of the Mombasa -bound carriageway of Mombasa Road (A8), and both carriageways of the Nairobi Expressway between Airtel Complex and General Motors will be closed from Saturday, June 13, 2026 to Sunday, June 14, 2026 for 24 hours from 10.00pm,” reads part of the notice.
According to the authority, the closure will facilitate the installation of fabricated beams for the Airtel Footbridge across the Nairobi Expressway carriageway.
KeNHA advised motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be deployed at the site to manage the flow of vehicles.
“This is to allow for installation of the fabricated footbridge beams of the Airtel Footbridge across the Expressway Carriageway. KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan below and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” KeNHA added.

KeNHA Lists Alternative Routes for Motorists
Authorities have mapped out alternative routes to help motorists navigate the 24-hour closure along the affected section of Mombasa Road and the Nairobi Expressway.
Drivers heading toward the city centre from Mombasa Road will divert through Enterprise Road, Likoni Road and other adjacent feeder roads.
Motorists approaching from the Central Business District can use the Southern Bypass or Waiyaki Way connections to access Mombasa Road beyond the closure point.
Travellers heading to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) should leave earlier or use alternative routes to avoid delays.

Authority Warns of Traffic Disruptions
Traffic will likely build up along key feeder roads, including Enterprise Road, Mombasa Road service lanes, and surrounding areas such as Likoni Road and Southern Bypass connections.
Commuters travelling to and from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) should plan their journeys early to avoid missing flights.
The installation of the Airtel Footbridge by KeNHA marks a significant step toward improving pedestrian safety along the high-traffic highway, where pedestrians have previously risked their lives crossing.
Motorists should stay updated through official KeNHA communication channels and traffic advisories during the closure period.
