The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has issued a public notice warning motor vehicle owners to collect their logbooks within six months or risk having them disposed off.

In the notice dated Thursday, June 11, 2026, the Authority outlined new timelines for logbook collection, signaling stricter enforcement on unclaimed documents.

“NTSA WILL NOT store currently printed and yet to be collected logbooks for more than a period of six (6) months,” NTSA stated.

“After the 6-month period, all uncollected logbooks will be disposed of in accordance with the Authority’s policy,” NTSA added.

The Authority urged all vehicle owners whose logbooks are still being held at NTSA offices to collect them as soon as possible to avoid inconveniences

NTSA further warned that motorists will not be able to access services that require a copy of a logbook unless they attach the current or original logbook to their application.

The Authority noted that all its offices across the country remain open from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to assist clients with logbook collection and other services.

Authority Says Collection is Free of Charge

NTSA clarified that collecting a logbook is free of charge and advised vehicle owners to carry their previous logbook together with an identification document for verification purposes when visiting collection centres.

The Authority also encouraged members of the public to seek assistance through its customer support channels, including email, social media platforms, NTSA offices, and Huduma Centres.

About Logbook

An NTSA Logbook, known as the Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate, is a legal document issued by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) that serves as official proof of vehicle ownership in Kenya.

It contains vital details about the vehicle, such as the chassis number, engine capacity, make, and model, alongside the registered owner’s personal details and tax configuration.

As of June 2026, Kenya has officially transitioned away from traditional paperwork, making the motor vehicle registration process entirely digital.

Physical paper logbooks have been permanently retired. NTSA now exclusively issues a digital eLogbook.

Newly processed logbooks are generated instantly on the user’s portal upon successful registration or ownership transfer.

Motor vehicle owners can view, print, or download their digital eLogbook directly from their accounts at no extra cost.
