Many people unknowingly engage in daily habits that could be damaging their hair from tight hairstyles to lack of moisture.

Experts warn that these habits can contribute to hair breakage, thinning, dryness and even long term hair loss if left unchecked.

Tight hairstyles on a day to day basis can damage hair. Hair being tight strains the scalp and causes breakage and hair loss or even traction alopecia, which is hair loss caused by tension.

Too Much Heat

Frequent use of blow dryers, flat irons, curling wands, and hot combs can weaken hair strands and cause breakage.

Heat on the hair during straightening or styling damages hair and makes it lack moisture.

Harsh Shampoos

The hair and scalp produces natural oils to keep the hair healthy, harsh shampoos especially those containing sebum damage the hair by stripping it of moisture.

This weakens the hair cuticles and causes dryness and frizz as well as making the hair look less shiny.

Rough Detangling

Forcing a comb or a brush through tangled hair causes the hair shaft to snap leading to broken pieces and uneven hair length.

Repeated breakage makes hair look thinner and damaged.

Ignoring Scalp Health

A healthy scalp is the key to healthy hair growth. If the scalp is neglected, it may become too dry or too oily.

Neither is good for healthy hair growth because dryness can lead to itching and flaking, while too much oil clogs pores.

Over Washing Hair

Washing hair a lot can also damage the hair; the scalp can be dry and flaky, while hair strands weaken over time.

It is recommended to only wash hair twice a month for healthy hair growth and a nourished scalp.

Not Protecting Hair

Cotton pillowcases can create friction that leads to tangles and hair breakage. A satin or silk bonnet, scarf, or pillowcase can help reduce damage to the hair.

Ignoring Regular Trims

Healthy hair requires regular trimming to give room for new growth. Ignoring trimming can cause split ends, which eventually unravel the hair shaft, causing breakage.

Lack Of Moisture

Dry hair is most prone to breakage, so lack of moisture makes the hair imbalanced due to breakage.

To have healthy hair, one is required to moisturise with a good hair serum at least once a week.

Product Build-up

Using a lot of products on your hair clogs pores and makes it difficult for the scalp to breathe and welcome new hair growth.

Experts say a few products that show results are way better than many products that clog pores and can cause long-term hair damage.
