Maurice Ogeta is Raila Odinga’s first and longtime bodyguard, accompanying him until his demise in India.

He was born and raised in the Kondele area, Kisumu County.

Ogeta has been praised for his dedication and loyalty towards safeguarding Raila until his last breath.

The little-known champion from the lakeside accompanied the body to the airport and remained by its side during preparations to return to Kenya.

His final actions of accompanying the coffin have been highlighted as a testament to his lifelong duty and friendship with Odinga.

He is known for wearing African-designed suits and putting on a very serious facial.

Maurice was trusted to protect Raila full-time time especially when his life was in danger during protests and demonstrations.

Maurice Ogeta Training

Maurice is one of the most highly trained security guards in Kenya.

Sources revealed that Ogeta attended military training for over 25 years with some of the best militaries in the world.

Maurice has trained with Israeli special forces for a period of 15 years and Russian forces for 10 years.

He also trained in Afghanistan for 2 years and France for another 2 years.

Additionally, he holds the record of the fastest man in the military field and can also shoot accurately at a higher speed.

Ogeta can speak in more than 15 languages fluently, including German, Russian, Arabic, and Chinese, among many other diverse languages.

Maurice Special Skills

Speed reaction is a special skill he possesses, as he can aim and shoot a target at approximately 1.8 seconds.

His ability to scan weapons and explosives from a distance made him outstanding.

Throughout his duties, he wears a bulletproof vest on his chest and can move at high speed.

Public Appreciation

Ogeta is one of the few people who can truly account for events that happened in India before and after the death of Odinga.

He has been Raila’s shadow throughout his life, and more so in his final months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, and seconds.

Maurice did not leave his side, not even to rest, as he remained steadfast beside the body, holding on through it all.

Ogeta was with Raila Odinga at the moment of his collapse on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

He later accompanied the body to Cochin International Airport, earning widespread sympathy from Kenyans who praised his steadfast loyalty and composure in the face of evident grief.
