KNEC opens an online portal for KCSE certificates from 1994 to 2025. Candidates can access results using index number after paying KSh 1,300 fee.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has opened the KNEC E-Certificate Platform, enabling candidates who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) between 1994 and 2025 to access their certificates online.

The new digital system allows users to conveniently access, download and instantly verify their academic credentials from anywhere, including their homes or cyber cafes.

The platform forms part of KNEC’s broader strategy to digitize its services and enhance efficiency, security, and accessibility for candidates and institutions.

“A unified platform empowering candidates with ownership of their achievements while providing employers with absolute trust in academic credentials by instant verification of tamper-proof e-certificates,” KNEC stated.

KNEC Rolls Out KCSE Certificate Portal

According to KNEC, the platform ensures that all certificates are secure and tamper-proof, giving employers, universities, and other stakeholders confidence when verifying academic qualifications.

The system also minimizes cases of certificate forgery, which has been a long-standing concern in the education sector.

To access the service, candidates must provide their correct index number and the year they sat for the examination.

Users are required to pay a one-time processing and access fee of Ksh.1,300 to retrieve their certificates.

How to Access the Certificate

To access the service, follow these steps:

  • Visit the KNEC E-Certificate Platform
  • Click on Sign up / Register to create a student profile
  • Log in using the credentials sent to your email
  • Navigate to the certificate dashboard
  • Enter your KCSE index number and examination year
  • Complete the required payment
  • View, generate, and download your authenticated digital certificate

Instant Verification for Institutions

In addition, the platform supports instant verification, allowing institutions and employers to confirm the authenticity of certificates in real time.

This feature is expected to significantly reduce delays often associated with manual verification processes.

The launch of the portal marks a major milestone in Kenya’s education sector as public institutions increasingly adopt digital solutions.

It also addresses the challenges faced by thousands of candidates who have struggled to replace lost certificates or access their academic records over the years.
