Muhoozi Says Jesus Christ Instructed Him to Expel Turks From Uganda in 30 Days

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has stirred fresh controversy after saying Jesus Christ instructed him to expel Turkish nationals from Uganda within 30 days.

In a series of posts on X on Sunday, June 28, the military chief, who is also President Yoweri Museveni’s son, said Turks had no place in Uganda and demanded compensation from Turkey.

“My God Jesus Christ has instructed me to chase the Turkish from His country! That’s what we will do,” Muhoozi wrote.

He added: “There are no pacts between lions and men! All Turks must be outside of our country in 30 days.”

Muhoozi demands $1 billion from Turkey

In earlier posts, Muhoozi claimed Turkey owes Uganda $1 billion because Uganda’s soldiers fought Al-Shabaab militants in Somalia before Turkey increased its presence in the country.

“I fought in Mogadishu by myself for four years, from 2007 to 2011. The only countries that helped us those days were the Americans, British, and the French. After 2011, the Turks appeared from the blue. I guess they had been hiding under pit latrines,” he posted.

He later added, “On top of the one billion dollars from Turkey, I want the most beautiful woman in that country for a wife.”

Muhoozi has not provided evidence that Turkey owes Uganda money.

Why the General is targeting Turkey

Muhoozi’s latest remarks appear to be linked to Uganda’s military role in Somalia.

Uganda became the first country to deploy troops to Somalia in 2007 under the African Union peace mission.

Thousands of Ugandan soldiers have fought Al-Shabaab militants for nearly two decades, helping protect Somalia’s government and key institutions.

Turkey expanded its engagement in Somalia several years later. It has invested heavily in infrastructure, humanitarian aid, education and security.

Turkey also operates its largest overseas military training base in Mogadishu and has trained thousands of Somali security personnel.

Muhoozi argues that Uganda created the security needed for foreign countries, including Turkey, to invest in Somalia.

He believes Uganda should be compensated for its military contribution.

However, there is no known agreement requiring Turkey to pay Uganda for its role in the Somalia mission.

Sudden change in tone

Muhoozi’s comments also mark a major shift in his position on Turkey.

In late 2025, he welcomed executives from Turkish construction company Yapı Merkezi and praised its work on Uganda’s Standard Gauge Railway project.

Earlier this month, however, he announced that the company’s contract had been cancelled and called for protests outside the Turkish Embassy in Kampala.

His latest posts continue that criticism, although the Ugandan government has not announced any official policy ordering Turkish nationals to leave the country.

Comparisons to Idi Amin’s expulsion of Asians

Muhoozi’s demand that all Turks leave Uganda within 30 days has drawn comparisons online to former President Idi Amin’s expulsion of Asians in 1972.

In August 1972, Amin ordered about 60,000 Asians to leave Uganda within 90 days.

He claimed they were exploiting Uganda’s economy, failing to integrate into society and controlling much of the country’s trade.

Amin also said God had instructed him in a dream to expel them.

Many historians say the expulsion badly damaged Uganda’s economy because the Asian community owned many businesses and played a key role in commerce and tax revenue.

Years later, President Yoweri Museveni invited many of the expelled families to return and reclaim their properties.

Social media reaction

Muhoozi’s posts quickly attracted attention on social media.

One Ugandan X user wrote, “Uganda’s military chief just posted on X demanding $1 billion from Turkey or he’s closing their embassy. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who also happens to be the President’s son, says Turkey profited from Uganda’s work against Al Shabaab without paying up. Geopolitical debt collection, conducted entirely via social media.”
