Kenya Airways Brings Back Its Largest Aircraft After 10-Year Lease to Turkish Airlines

Kenya Airways has brought its largest passenger aircraft, the 400-seat Boeing 777-300ER, back to Nairobi after a 10-year sublease to Turkish Airlines.

The airline will operate the wide-body aircraft on domestic flights between Nairobi and Mombasa for five days before returning it to international service on the Nairobi–London route.

According to Kenya Airways, the Boeing 777-300ER will operate on the Nairobi–Mombasa route from July 12 to July 16, 2026. The airline will then deploy the aircraft on the Nairobi–London route from July 17, 2026, after completing the limited domestic service.

“For five days only, 12th to 16th July 2026, we are bringing our iconic Boeing 777 to the Nairobi–Mombasa route, with fares slashed by up to 50%,” Kenya Airways stated.

The airline also argued that the move is aimed at giving travellers the chance to experience the spacious cabin and premium comfort of its largest aircraft while flying to the Coast.

“Upgrade your quick coastal getaway and experience the unmatched space and premium comfort of our premier wide-body aircraft for less,” Kenya Airways stated.

To mark the aircraft’s return, Kenya Airways has introduced discounts of up to 50% on return tickets for the Nairobi to Mombasa route.

In addition, the airline stated that the promotional fares are available for bookings made up to July 16, 2026.

Kenya Airways also noted that the offer applies only to return tickets on Kenya Airways-operated flights.

The airline further clarified that the discount applies only to the net fare, excluding taxes, fees, and surcharges, and is subject to seat availability and other terms and conditions.

About Boeing 777-300ER 

It is one of the largest aircraft in commercial aviation and is widely used by major global airlines, including Kenya Airways.

The Boeing 777-300ER is approximately 73.9 metres long with a wingspan of 64.8 metres and a height of 18.5 metres.

Additionally, the airline has a maximum takeoff weight of about 351,000 kilograms, which allows it to carry large passenger loads and significant cargo over long distances.

The aircraft is configured to carry about 400 passengers, with 28 seats in Business Class and 372 in Economy Class.

Additionally, the Business Class cabin features fully flat-bed seats, privacy dividers, and large personal entertainment screens, while Economy Class offers improved legroom, adjustable headrests, personal screens, and USB and power outlets.
