Kenyan-born attorney Robert Miano has gained online attention after delivering a motivational speech at the World Financial Group (WFG) Convention of Champions 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada, held from July 6 to July 9, 2026.
His confidence, storytelling style, and message on success have led some social media users to compare his delivery to former US President Barack Obama.
The annual WFG gathering brought together financial professionals, leaders, and entrepreneurs for leadership sessions, networking, and recognition of achievements.
During the event, Robert Miano shared his personal journey, career experiences, and lessons on mentorship, financial growth, and generational entrepreneurship.
Miano opened his speech by reflecting on his legal career, explaining that he studied law at the University of Pittsburgh before becoming a licensed attorney in several states across the United States.
“I studied law at the University of Pittsburgh, and then after that, became a licensed attorney in several states in the US. And then, I worked for a large professional services firm for 10 years,” Miano said.
However, he explained that professional success did not prevent him from discovering new opportunities.
He said an introduction to a new venture helped him identify areas where he still needed to learn and grow.
“I know I was killing it, but here’s the thing: sometimes you don’t know, and you don’t know that you don’t know. It’s when I was introduced to this opportunity that I realized there are so many things I didn’t know,” he said.
Robert Miano Credits Wife for Changing His Perspective
While explaining his journey, Miano credited his wife, Kate Miano, for encouraging him to attend an event that later influenced his direction.
He recalled a moment when they were driving home after church, and his wife suggested attending a celebration for SMD Beatrice and Rebecca.
“I still remember, we were driving home after church, and my wife, Kate Miano, told me, ‘We need to go and celebrate SMD Beatrice and Rebecca,’” he said.
Miano said the experience changed how he viewed opportunities and encouraged people to approach invitations with enthusiasm.
“When you invite people to events, invite them with energy and excitement, because I still remember how excited and energetic Kate was on that day,” he said.
He also shared a message about the importance of listening to spouses, saying his wife’s encouragement played a key role in his journey.
“I’m not a marital counsellor, but men, you need to listen to your wives. If I hadn’t listened to my wife, I wouldn’t be on this stage right now,” Miano said.

Miano Highlights Kenyan Heritage and African Success
As he continued his speech, Miano discussed mentorship and the influence of surrounding oneself with people who promote growth.
He credited his mentor Lilian Apofor for helping expand his understanding of possibilities.
“It’s during those events that I got to meet my mentor. Let me talk about the power of mentorship, because mentorship is expanding possibilities,” he said.
Miano also spoke about African achievements while encouraging members of the diaspora to pursue opportunities and create lasting impact.
He referenced Barack Obama, whose father was Kenyan, while describing the possibility of rising from humble beginnings to positions of global influence.
“If Barack Obama, with heritage from this Africa and Kenya in particular, could hustle from being a community organizer in Chicago to the White House, we can do it too!” Miano said.
He further mentioned entrepreneur Elon Musk, adding: “If Elon Musk, with heritage from South Africa, could become a trillionaire, we can do it too!”
The remarks prompted online users to describe him as “another Obama from Kenya,” referring to his Kenyan roots and public speaking style.
Attorney Shares Message on Generational Entrepreneurship
Miano used the platform to encourage financial empowerment and said he wanted to help change the financial future of African communities in the United States.
“We have said that we want to change the financial trajectory of our people here in the US,” he said.
Additionally, he highlighted the importance of choosing positive associations and learning from successful people.
“They say if you associate with a millionaire, you’re going to be the next one. But if you associate with broke, negative people, you’ll find yourself giving up in life,” Miano added.
