Diamond Trust Bank Kenya Appoints Former CMA CEO to Its Board

Diamond Trust Bank Kenya (DTB Kenya) has appointed Paul Murithi Muthaura as a non-executive director, effective July 14, 2026.

In a public announcement dated July 17, the bank’s Board of Directors said Muthaura joins the board with extensive experience in governance, financial markets, regulatory leadership, financial sector development and policy reform.

“The Board of Directors of Diamond Trust Bank Kenya Limited is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Paul Murithi Muthaura, MBS, as a non-executive Director of the Company with effect from 14 July 2026,” the announcement stated.

DTB Kenya Appoints Paul Muthaura as Director

According to the DTB, Paul Muthaura has held several senior leadership positions in Kenya’s financial sector and in corporate governance.

He most recently served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO ) of the Africa Carbon Markets Initiative through December 2025.

“Muthaura served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Africa Carbon Markets Initiative through December 2025,” DTB bank stated.

Before that, Muthaura served as an Independent Consultant at EMRD Advisory Limited, Chief Executive Officer and Principal Officer of ICEA LION General Insurance Company Limited, and Chief Executive Officer of the Capital Markets Authority (CMA).

DTB bank also highlighted that it currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the International Valuation Standards Council.

He also serves on the boards of British American Tobacco Kenya, ICEA LION Asset Management, and the Financial Sector Deepening Trust Kenya.

The bank further noted that he has previously served on the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants, the Board of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), and the Financial Stability Board Regional Consultative Group for Sub-Saharan Africa.

At the national level, he has also served on the boards of insurance and pensions regulators, as well as the Vision 2030 Delivery Board.

His Career and Education

DTB bank further stated that Paul Muthaura holds a Master of Philosophy in Business Administration from the Maastricht School of Management, a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Warwick.

He also holds an Executive Diploma in Financial Management from KCA University.

Muthaura is an Academy of Executive Coaching-certified Executive Coach and Systemic Team Coach, an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, and an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya.

The board also congratulated Muthaura on his appointment as a non-executive director of the bank.

“The Board takes this opportunity to congratulate Mr. Muthaura on his appointment as a non-executive Director of the Bank,” DTB bank stated.
