Kenya Met Lists Counties to Receive Rainfall in New Five-Day Weather Forecast

The Kenya Meteorological Service (Kenya Met) has released its five-day weather forecast covering the period between July 18 and July 22, 2026, warning that several counties should prepare for rainfall while others will continue experiencing sunny intervals, cool weather and cloudy conditions.

According to Kenya Met, rainfall is expected in several counties during the five-day period, while intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are likely to affect parts of Makueni, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kiambu, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Baringo, Narok, Kajiado and Nairobi counties.

Residents have been advised to keep following daily county-specific forecasts as weather patterns may change from day to day.

The forecast shows that coastal counties, northern Kenya, the Rift Valley, western Kenya, central Kenya, eastern Kenya and the Nairobi region will all experience varying weather conditions ranging from sunny intervals and light showers to moderate rainfall in some locations.

Maximum temperatures across the country are expected to range between 23°C and 37°C, while minimum temperatures will fall to as low as 5°C in colder highland areas.

Coastal Counties to Experience Sunny Weather with Isolated Showers

Along the Coast, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River and Lamu are expected to experience predominantly sunny intervals during mornings and afternoons for most of the forecast period.

However, light showers are forecast in the mornings of Tuesday and Wednesday in Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Tana River, while Lamu may begin receiving morning showers from Monday through Wednesday.

Nights are expected to remain partly cloudy across the coastal region.

Temperatures will range between 21°C and 33°C depending on the county.

Hot Conditions Persist in Northern Kenya

Northern counties including Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit, Isiolo and Meru are expected to remain largely sunny throughout the five days.

Mandera will continue recording the country’s highest temperatures, reaching a maximum of 37°C every day, while Wajir and Garissa are also expected to remain hot with temperatures above 33°C.

Only Mandera is forecast to receive light afternoon showers on Tuesday.

Nights across the region will generally remain partly cloudy.

Central and Eastern Regions to Experience Cool Mornings

Counties including Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a and Kiambu are expected to experience mostly sunny intervals, although cloudy mornings and occasional light showers are forecast in some areas.

Nyandarua is expected to remain among the coldest counties, with minimum temperatures dropping to as low as 5°C on Saturday before gradually rising to 10°C by Wednesday.

Light afternoon showers are also expected in Nyandarua, Murang’a and Kiambu on selected days.

Rainfall Expected in Parts of Rift Valley

Several Rift Valley counties will receive rainfall during the forecast period.

West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Baringo, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Kajiado, Kericho and Bomet are forecast to experience light to moderate showers on different days.

Nandi will begin the period with light morning rain on Saturday before receiving afternoon showers on several days, including moderate showers on Tuesday.

Kericho is expected to record moderate afternoon showers on Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday, while Nakuru will experience moderate showers on Sunday.

Despite the rainfall, mornings are expected to remain largely sunny across most counties.

Western Kenya to Receive Intermittent Rain

Western Kenya counties, including Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya and Kisumu, are expected to receive intermittent rainfall throughout the forecast period.

Kakamega, Busia and Siaya will start Saturday with light morning rain before sunny intervals return.

Kisumu is forecast to receive light afternoon showers from Sunday through Wednesday, while Vihiga is expected to experience light afternoon showers every day.

Bungoma is likely to receive light morning rain on Wednesday alongside recurring afternoon showers during the period.

Nyanza Counties to Experience Mixed Weather

In Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira, residents should expect a combination of sunny intervals and light showers.

Homa Bay will begin with light morning rain on Saturday and could experience light night showers on Monday before afternoon showers return on Wednesday.

Migori, Kisii and Nyamira are forecast to receive afternoon light showers on several days, while nights across the region will remain partly cloudy.

Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 27°C and 31°C.

Nairobi to Remain Cool and Mostly Sunny

Nairobi County is expected to experience sunny intervals during mornings and afternoons throughout the five-day period, with partly cloudy nights.

Temperatures will range between a maximum of 25°C and 26°C and a minimum of 9°C and 10°C.

However, Kenya Met notes that intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are still expected in the capital during the forecast period.

The agency also explained that light rain refers to less than 5 millimetres in 24 hours, moderate rainfall ranges between 5 and 20 millimetres, heavy rainfall ranges from 21 to 50 millimetres, while amounts above 50 millimetres are classified as very heavy rainfall.
