KDF Thwarts Terror Plot After Finding Four Hidden Bombs in Lamu

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have foiled several suspected terrorist attacks after discovering and destroying four hidden Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Lamu County. The successful operations protected both security personnel and civilians using key transport routes.

The discoveries happened during separate patrols under Operation Amani Boni (OAB). KDF troops found the explosives along Major Supply Routes (MSRs), which serve both military operations and public movement. The explosives were safely destroyed before causing any harm.

KDF Route Clearance Patrol Detects First Hidden IED

The first breakthrough came during a dominance, route clearance and link-up patrol. During the operation, soldiers detected a concealed pressure plate IED before anyone triggered it. They immediately secured the area to prevent danger.

Afterwards, the troops carried out a controlled explosion to destroy the device safely. Consequently, they prevented what could have been a deadly attack on both security officers and civilians travelling through the area.

A few days later, KDF troops made another important discovery. While conducting routine dominance and route clearance patrols, they found three additional hidden IEDs in the Sarira area.

The explosives were planted about 5.1 kilometers, 8.27 kilometers and 8.4 kilometers along major supply routes. Their locations suggested a deliberate attempt to target vehicles and personnel using the roads.

Following the discovery, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialists responded quickly. They secured each location before carefully disposing of all three explosives without injuries or property damage.

Military Pressure Forces Terrorists to Change Tactics

According to KDF, the repeated discovery of IEDs shows that terrorist groups continue relying on hidden explosives. However, sustained military pressure has reduced their ability to launch direct attacks.
