Pistol, Drugs Recovered as Police Arrest Suspected Nairobi Phone Snatcher

A suspected phone snatcher and robber has been arrested in Majengo slums by police from Shauri Moyo Police Station in Buruburu while conducting a routine patrol.

In a statement on July 23, the National Police Service (NPS) said the suspect is linked to a series of robberies in the Nairobi East Sub-Region.

Police say the suspect was intercepted by officers while allegedly robbing a member of the public within the Majengo slums in Nairobi.

“The suspect was intercepted while violently robbing a member of the public and had already forcefully taken the victim’s mobile phone and KSh 3,000 in cash,” said NPS.

Suspect Robbed Victim

The suspect had already managed to rob the victim and took his mobile phone and Ksh 3,000 that the victim was carrying with him.

After the arrest, police say they conducted a search on the suspect and discovered a toy pistol gun that police suspect he was using to conduct the robberies.

A mobile phone and 152 rolls of cannabis sativa were also recovered alongside the toy pistol.

He was placed in police custody while awaiting his processing and arraignment in court, while the recovered items have been securely kept as evidence.

Suspect In Custody

This arrest comes as the police continue operations targeting street robberies and other criminal activities in Nairobi and its surrounding areas.

Phone snatching in Nairobi has become a problem for people living in Nairobi as phone snatchers are everywhere, targeting people to snatch phones.

Police have therefore intensified patrols in areas that are densely populated in a move which is aimed at combating criminal activities and improving public safety.

NPS further said that they are committed to combating criminality countrywide.

On the same note they urge members of the public to continue cooperating with the law to ensure safety for all members of the public.

Members of the public have been urged to report criminal activities to the nearest police station or through their toll-free numbers.
