The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has issued a heavy rainfall advisory for several areas.
In the forecast issued on October 22, Kenya Met Acting Director General Kennedy Thiong’o warned of heavy rainfall from October 23, 2025, 4 pm to October 30, 2025, 7 pm.
Kenya Met said there is a moderate Probability of occurrence (33% to 66% Chance)
The Weatherman said rainfall currently affecting parts of the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and Highlands West of Rift Valley is expected to intensify to more than 30mm in 24 hours and spread to the Highlands East of Rift Valley, including Nairobi and parts of the Southeastern lowlands on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
“The heavy rainfall is expected to continue and extend to parts of the Northeast from Thursday, 30th October 2025. This is likely to mark the Onset of the Short Rains Season (OND) 2025 over several parts of the country except over parts of the Southeastern lowlands and the coastal region, as indicated in the OND 2025 Forecast,” Thiong’o said.

Areas of Concern
The counties predicted to receive heavy rainfall include Kisumu, Homabay, Siaya, Migori, Busia, Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, and Kakamega.
Others are Vihiga, Bungoma, Narok, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West-Pokot, Turkana, Isiolo, and Samburu.
Kenya Met also listed: Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, Nairobi, and parts of Kajiado, Machakos, and Makueni.

Residents in all the mentioned areas are advised to be on the lookout for potential floods.
Kenya Met said flood waters may appear in places where it has not rained heavily, especially downstream.
“People are advised to avoid driving through or walking in moving water, open fields, and not to shelter under trees and near grilled windows to minimize exposure to lightning strikes,” Thiong’o added.
“People in landslide-prone areas, especially over the slopes of Aberdare ranges, Mt. Kenya, and other sloppy areas over the western region, should be on high alert. Updates will be provided promptly if there are any changes.”
