Former Tahidi High Actor OJ Claps Back at Critics Saying He Is Broke

Former Tahidi High actor Dennis Mugo, popularly known as OJ, has once again hit back at critics over claims that he is struggling financially, following renewed online discussions about his lifestyle.
In a statement dated August 5, 2026, the actor accused media outlets of sensationalising ordinary aspects of his life and using them to portray him as broke.
“I want to extend my deepest, most sincere gratitude for your tireless, unprofessional obsession with my daily routine,” he wrote.

OJ took issue with reports questioning his financial status based on the car he drives and the places he chooses to eat and socialise.
The actor sarcastically said the media had treated his purchase of a Mazda Demio as evidence of financial hardship, mocking what he described as attempts to turn ordinary moments into headline news.
“Your bold, multi-page spread questioning my financial stability just because I bought a Demio truly represents the pinnacle of modern journalism,” he added.

The Tahidi High actor also criticised what he termed as intrusive reporting, saying it was unethical to follow him while eating at a roadside eatery and present it as a sign that he was struggling.
Additionally, OJ went on to ridicule the notion that celebrities must constantly display wealth to prove they are successful while sarcastically apologising for choosing to enjoy an affordable drink instead of expensive liquor.
The actor further joked that he would try to live a more extravagant lifestyle to make it easier for critics to write about him.
Actor Reiterates Criticism of Media Coverage
The latest statement comes days after OJ responded to criticism following the circulation of a video showing him enjoying himself at a local pub.
The clip went viral on social media, prompting speculation from some online users and media outlets about his lifestyle and financial status.
While some fans expressed concern over his well-being, others criticised the way the footage was being shared and interpreted.

Responding to the reactions at the time, OJ accused some media outlets of deliberately pushing negative narratives about him.
“I thank all of these media houses still spreading footage of my good times. I have always had fun wherever I am with my friends,” he said.
The actor added that he had grown accustomed to rumours and urged journalists to uphold professionalism.
