Former Councillor and MP Aspirant Shot Dead by Unknown Assailants at His Home

Former Chesikaki councillor Nathan Wasama Masai has been shot dead by unknown assailants at his home in Tuikut, Cheptais Sub-county, Mt Elgon Constituency in Bungoma County.

According to reports, the attackers allegedly raided his home and shot him multiple times before fleeing the scene on the night of Thursday, August 6, 2026.

They left him with multiple gunshot injuries.

Barasa Condolence Message

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa was among the first politicians to react to the incident.

In a statement, Barasa condemned the act of violence, adding that no person deserves to die in such tragic circumstances.

“It is with profound sadness that I learned of the tragic death of former Councillor Nathan Wasama, who was reportedly shot at his home in Tuikut, Cheptais, and later succumbed to his injuries. I unequivocally condemn this senseless act of violence. No one should lose their life under such tragic circumstances, and those responsible must be identified and held accountable through the due process of the law,” Barasa said.

He urged investigative agencies to act swiftly and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“I call upon the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to conduct a swift, impartial, and thorough investigation to ensure justice is served,” he stated.

The Former Chesikaki Councillor Was Attacked in 2024

This incident marks the second attempt on his life in two years.

In 2024, gunmen ambushed Wasama in the Kapcheshari area, but he survived the attack.

The assailants fired multiple shots at the rear of his vehicle around 7 PM, yet he escaped unharmed.

Besides, Wasama’s death comes only weeks after he publicly declared his intention to contest the Mt Elgon parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.

Neither the National Police Service (NPS) nor the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had issued a statement addressing the incident by the time of publication.
