Man Slapped With 10-Year Jail Term After Attempting to Kill Police Officer

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) secures a 10-year prison sentence against a suspect after he was convicted of attempted murder.

According to the DPP, Abdiqani Haji Ibrahim was convicted of attempted murder of a police officer who was attached to Wajir Police Station.

The convict was sentenced by Wajir Senior Magistrate Erick Malesi after he was found guilty of attempted murder, which is contrary to section 220(a) of the Penal Code.

The prosecution, which was led by Assistant DPP Robert Nyoro, told the court that on June 16 2025 is when Ibrahim attempted to murder Emmanuel Juma Khaemba.

Day Of The Crime

It happened at Baraza Park in Wajir Township, Wajir County, when the accused attempted to attack the police officer with a Somali sword.

This took place as the officer attached to Wajir Police Station was walking to work to report for duty. He was stabbed with the sword on his left shoulder.

After attacking the police officer, Ibrahim went into hiding before he was later found and arrested on July 22 2025, by Wajir East Police officers led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS).

After the arrest, a search was then conducted by the police officers, which led to the recovery of the Somali sword that was used to attack the police officer.

Court Sentencing

Ibrahim was then presented to the court on July 23, 2026, and was charged with attempted murder of a police officer.

The matter then proceeded to full trial, with the prosecution calling six witnesses to prove its case.

Police Inspector Kennedy conducted an identification parade during which the complainant positively identified the accused.

Therefore, the court convicted Ibrahim under Section 215 of the Criminal Procedure Code after considering the evidence that was presented by the prosecution.

During sentencing proceedings held on August 17 and 16 2026, the court considered the gravity of the offence and the conduct of the complainant as aggravating factors before sentencing Ibrahim to 10 years’ imprisonment

Ibrahim was then granted 14 days to appeal against the conviction and the sentence according to the constitution.
