The state Department for Basic Education clarifies that the reports circulating on social media claiming that school opening has been postponed are fake.
“The post circulating on social media claiming that school opening has been postponed is FAKE. Parents, guardians, learners, teachers and the public are urged to ignore it,” the State Department for Basic Education said.
Government reiterates that term three begins on August 24 2026 as it had been communicated earlier.
“Term 3 begins on 24th August 2026 as earlier communicated,” they said.
False Reports
This comes after there have been reports circulating om social media saying that schools reopening has been postponed and they will reopen on September 15 2026.
The State Department urged the public to rely on official government communication for any updates regarding the school calendar and cautioned against sharing unverified information online.

Schools are therefore expected to reopen on August 24, 2026, in line with the official 2026 academic calendar.
Parents and guardians are therefore being encouraged to make the necessary preparations ahead of the start of the new term.
No Changes To The Calendar
The department said if there are any changes to the school calendar it would be communicated through official government channels to ensure that parents, teachers, learners and education stakeholders receive accurate information.
The latest clarification is expected to end the uncertainty created by the fake notice, as schools and families prepare for the start of the third term.
Parents and guardians have consequently been advised to ignore the September 15 reopening date and proceed with preparations for the officially confirmed August 24 reopening.
The third term is scheduled to run for nine weeks, making it the shortest term of the 2026 academic year.
Opening Date
Schools are expected to close on October 23 2026 before learners proceed to the period set aside for national assessments and examinations.
The examination calendar will then take effect from October 26 2026, when the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and other assessments under the Competency-Based Education system are scheduled to begin.
