Bonny Khalwale is a Kenyan politician, vocal legislator, and medical doctor who has served in parliament for more than two decades. He is currently a Senator for Kakamega County.
Khalwale was born on April 29, 1960, in Kakamega County. He attended Malinya Primary School and Musingu Secondary School before he joined the University of Nairobi, where he studied medicine.
Before entering politics, Khalwale worked as a Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health and later established a private medical practice.
He has continued to use the professional title “Dr.” Throughout his political career.
Khalwale In Politics
He got into elective politics in 2002 when he was elected Member of Parliament for Ikolomani Constituency on a Ford Kenya ticket, and he also retained the seat in 2007.
Additionally, Khalwale also served as Assistant Minister for East African Community Affairs between 2006 and 2007 during his tenure as Ikolomani MP, marking his first appointment to the Executive.

After the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution, he was elected the first Senator of Kakamega County in 2013 under the United Democratic Forum (UDF).
During his tenure, he was known for pushing accountability issues and frequently speaking on matters of public finance and governance.
Political Party
He unsuccessfully contested for the Kakamega gubernatorial seat in 2017 before he returned to national politics in 2022, when he reclaimed the Senate seat under UDA, part of the Kenya Kwanza Coalition.
Khalwale is polygamous and has publicly stated that he has four wives and seventeen children.
He has occasionally spoken about his family life in interviews, although he largely keeps his children out of the public spotlight.
Personal Life
His first wife, Adelaide Khalwale, died in 2019, while his third wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, died recently in August 2026 after suffering a heart attack.

Apart from politics, Khalwale has interests in farming, particularly dairy and livestock farming in Kakamega County, alongside his background in private medical practice.
Popularly known by the nickname “Bullfighter,” the Senator is drawn from the traditional bullfighting culture of Western Kenya and has become one of the most recognizable political nicknames in Kenya’s public life.
