Inside Boni Khalwale’s Family: His 4 Wives and 17 Children

The sudden death of Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale has drawn fresh attention to the family life of  Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, which he has occasionally discussed publicly over the years.

Gloria died on Saturday, August 15, 2026, after she suddenly collapsed at the family home. Khalwale announced her death and attributed it to a heart attack.

“My dear wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, has this morning suddenly collapsed and died after a heart attack,” Khalwale said.

Following the announcement, political leaders and members of the public sent messages of condolence to Boni Khalwale and his family. However, Gloria’s death has also brought renewed interest in the family she helped build with the senator.

Gloria Sekeiyan Was the Third Wife to Boni Khalwale

Khalwale identified Gloria as his third wife and the mother of eight of his children when he discussed his family in 2024.

“Three, Gloria Khalwale, who is the mother of eight of my children. This eight, some are at the university, others in lower levels of education. They are all my copyrights, they have never had their paternity in doubt,” Khalwale said in the video.

Through that account, Khalwale revealed that Gloria had the largest number of children among his four wives. He later named the eight children in his announcement following her death on August 15.

They are Engine Kukaste Khalwale, Olivia Sabayi Khalwale, Flavia Shimuli Khalwale, Gift Atubukha Khalwale, Meliza Khamwenyi Khalwale, Velma Nasiebanda Khalwale, Sonia Inuni Khalwale and Maura Makatse Khalwale.

Adelaide Khalwale Was His First Wife

Before Gloria became part of his family, Khalwale married the late Adelaide Khalwale, whom he described as his first wife and the mother of his first three children.

“Wife number one is Adelaide Khalwale, who died 5 years ago. She’s the mother of my first 3 children,” Khalwale said.

Adelaide died in October 2019 at the family home in Malinya, Ikolomani, Kakamega County. Reports at the time said she was 56 and had spent 39 years married to Khalwale.

Consequently, Khalwale’s family had already experienced a major loss when Gloria died almost seven years later.

Josephine Khalwale Is His Second Wife

Khalwale named Josephine Khalwale as his second wife and said she has three children with him. At the time, one of the children had completed university while the other two continued their studies.

“Josephine Khalwale, my second wife. She is the mother of three of my children, one who has completed university, the other two still at the university,” he said.

Diana Khalwale Is His Fourth Wife

Khalwale identified Diana Khalwale as his fourth wife and said she has three children with him. His remarks placed Diana’s three children at lower levels of education when he made the disclosure.

“And finally, Diana Khalwale, mother of three, all of them in lower levels of education. The children, the three children are my copyrights,” he said.

Taken together, Khalwale’s figures account for 17 children and four wives.

Over the years, Khalwale has occasionally shared his children’s academic achievements, giving the public glimpses into a family that otherwise remains largely private.

Gloria’s Sudden Death Leaves the Family of Boni Khalwale in Mourning

Gloria’s death came without warning, according to Khalwale’s announcement. He said she suddenly collapsed before she died after a heart attack.

Political leaders, including President William Ruto, DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua, Senator Edwin Sifuna and Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, have since sent condolences to the family.

For Khalwale, the loss comes years after Adelaide died in 2019. Gloria’s death now leaves eight children mourning their mother while the wider family comes to terms with another major loss.
