How to Nominate a Teacher for the 2026 World Teachers’ Day Awards

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has commenced the 2026 World Teachers’ Day Awards nominations, and Kenyans are urged to nominate deserving teachers whose work has been of great significance to education.

On Tuesday, August 25th, TSC announced the call urging teachers and the general public to nominate their deserving teachers for national recognition.

“The Commission is calling for nominations for teachers for the World Teachers’ Day (WTD) 2026 Awards under the tagline ‘Twawaenzi Walimu–Mashujaa Wetu’,” TSC said.

The Commission announced that these awards will recognize and highlight outstanding contributions by teachers and education leaders who exhibit exceptional dedication and innovation, innovative leadership, and measurable impact in the field of teaching and learning.

“This initiative seeks to identify, recognize and celebrate teachers and education leaders who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, innovation, leadership and impact in advancing teaching and learning across the country,” TSC said.

TSC has expanded the awards to include registered, currently serving teachers and retired teachers who have made tangible contributions to teaching and learning.

Teachers from any recognized public, private and international learning institutions are eligible to be considered for the awards.

These include:

  • Primary.
  • Junior secondary.
  • Secondary.
  • Senior schools.
  • Teacher training colleges.

Teachers may also nominate themselves or nominate colleagues; they may also submit entries for up to 2 categories.

Peer and institutional nominations are also accepted.

The awards include categories such as lifetime achievement, early-career teaching, school leadership, inclusion, child protection, talent development, mentorship, innovation and ICT integration, resilience, national honors and international recognition.

Application Requirements

TSC indicated that each nominee should support their application by providing evidence of their part and impact.

The Commission has fixed 26 th of August 2026 at 11.00 p.m. as the closing date for nominations for the theme titled “Twawaenzi Walimu – Mashujaa Wetu.”

Nomination Deadline 

Judging will be based on results, freshness, inclusiveness, sustainability of stated objectives, and presentation provided.

All Kenyans who want to nominate a teacher have until 11:00 p.m. August 26 to nominate through the TSC process.
