Born in Transmara, Narok County, and raised in a remote village near the Maasai Mara National Park, Linus Kaikai’s story is one of grit, ambition, and remarkable achievement.
He is the sixth born in a family of ten, with four brothers and five sisters.
Kaikai’s passion for news was sparked early, drawing an inspiration from his father’s keen interest in current affairs.
Growing up in a marginalized region often threatened by roaming wildlife, Kaikai’s resolve to excel only grew stronger, the challenges he faced became his greatest motivation to succeed.
After completing primary school, Kaikai attended Kilgoris Secondary School, where his passion for journalism took root.
He then joined the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) to study Radio and Television Broadcasting.
He holds a Master’s Degree in International Journalism from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology and a Law Degree from the University of Nairobi, reflecting a rare blend of media and legal expertise.
He also attended the Kenya School of Law and is currently awaiting admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

Kaikai’s professional journey began at the Kenya Television Network (KTN), where he quickly rose through the ranks due to his dedication and talent.
His work earned him the 1997 CNN African Television Journalist 1st Prize and the 1998 Environmental Journalist of the Year Award, cementing his status as one of Africa’s leading broadcast journalists.
He later joined the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), where he spent eight years, progressing from correspondent to Bureau Chief, covering major events across the continent.
During his tenure, Kaikai reported on significant historical moments, experiences that deepened his journalistic conviction.
In 2007, Kaikai returned to KTN as the Managing Editor overseeing Quality and Product Development.
Two years later, he transitioned to NTV, where he continued to demonstrate his editorial leadership as Managing Editor.
Today, Kaikai serves as the Group Editorial & Strategy Director at Royal Media Services (RMS), where he plays a central role in shaping Citizen TV’s editorial direction and strategy.
His commentary segments, “Kaikai’s Kicker,” and , “The News Gang,” has become one of the most respected platforms for political and social analysis in Kenya.

Kaikai’s recent academic pursuit of law marks a bold new chapter.
His transition from the newsroom to the courtroom reflects his lifelong commitment to truth, fairness, and accountability, values shared by both journalism and the legal profession.
Though yet to be admitted to the Bar, Kaikai’s deep understanding of governance and rights places him among Kenya’s most intellectually versatile media personalities.
He is often described as a principled, articulate, and fearless individual, qualities that will undoubtedly define his legal career once admitted.
Beyond the cameras and newsrooms, Kaikai is a devoted family man. He is married to Jacinta Mueni, the Group Production Manager at Ogilvy Kenya.
