Royal Media House

Royal Media Services (RMS) has directed all its journalists and presenters intending to contest in the 2027 General Election to resign by June 30, 2026.

The RMS management board issued the memo to avert conflicts of interest as election campaigns gather momentum, reporter Ivy Muthe wrote on Twitter.

The order targets staff across Citizen TV, Inooro TV, Radio Citizen, and Egesa FM.

“Royal Media Services (RMS) has directed all its journalists and presenters intending to contest in the 2027 General Election to resign by the end of June,” Muthe wrote.

Journalists Vying for Political Positions

At least 8 popular journalists and presenters will have to quit their jobs to join the race.

They include:

Trevor Ombija of Citizen TV is vying for the Nyakach seat.

  • Lulu Hassan will be vying for the Mvita MP seat
  • Stephen Letoo is the leading aspirant for the Kilgoris MP position in Narok.
  • Inooro TV reporter Michael Njenga is targeting the Kabete MP seat.
  • Mwanahamisi Hamadi of Citizen TV is expected to contest the Likoni MP seat.
  • Radio Citizen presenter Tina Ogal will go for the Embakasi East MP position.

Nancy Kwamboka Omweri of Egesa FM is seeking to unseat Governor John Nyagaramaand claim the Nyamira Governor seat, taking the tally to 8 RMS journalists vying for political positions.

Staff Resignations for Political Contestants

RMS has not publicly commented on the order but similarly instructed staff vying for political seats to resign a few months before the 2026 general election.

The move was lauded by media analysts who said it is standard journalistic practice to uphold the distinction between journalism and politics, so as not to compromise editorial integrity.

“We are looking for professionals who can uphold good governance standards,” an RMS official wrote in an earlier memo on staff code of conduct.

The deadline for staff to resign is June 30, 2026, if they intend to contest in the 2027 election and allow for a smooth transition in the organization
