About the Supermarket
Jatomy Supermarkets Limited, also known as Jatomy Enterprises Limited, was a popular retail chain and distribution company based in Embu County that served shoppers across the Mount Kenya and Eastern regions.
The supermarket operated major branches in Embu Town and sold groceries, household goods, and electronics.
However, the company later faced serious financial problems caused by unpaid supplier debts and bank loans. Some branches closed in 2021, while auctioneers moved to sell supermarket stock and properties to recover debts.
The company was later subjected to insolvency proceedings at the Milimani Commercial Courts in Nairobi after creditors, including Kenafric Industries and Family Bank, sought liquidation.
On July 16, 2024, the High Court placed Jatomy Supermarkets under official liquidation and handed control of the company to the Official Receiver. In March 2025, the court dismissed attempts by former directors to challenge the liquidation process.
