The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has successfully integrated the Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS) with the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS).
In a notice dated September 1, KRA said the integration marks a significant milestone in the government’s Digital Transformation Agenda.
“Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), in collaboration with the National Treasury, informs the public of the successful implementation of the integration between the Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS) and the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS),” read part of the notice.
KRA Links Invoice Validation to Government Payment Processing
According to the authority, the system will enable the automated validation of tax invoices, helping to ensure that invoices submitted by suppliers for government payments are valid and properly recorded.
The integration will also support more seamless financial processes across government entities while promoting greater transparency and accountability in government transactions.
KRA has advised all suppliers doing business with government entities to comply with the new requirements.
Suppliers are required to generate valid eTIMS invoices for all supplies before submitting them for payment processing through IFMIS.
This means suppliers must ensure that their transactions are properly invoiced through eTIMS before seeking payment from government entities.
Suppliers to Keep eTIMS Invoice Details Accurate
KRA also stressed the importance of consistency between invoices submitted to government entities and those generated through eTIMS.
The tax authority said details contained in invoices submitted for payment must correspond precisely with the invoices generated and recorded in eTIMS.
Therefore, suppliers will need to ensure that the information contained in their invoices is accurate and consistent before submitting the documents through the government payment process.
KRA has encouraged suppliers to regularly verify their tax compliance status and ensure their tax records and information remain accurate and up to date.
The authority said the requirement forms part of the broader objective of using the integrated system to enhance tax compliance through automated invoice validation.
Support Available for eTIMS Onboarding
Suppliers are encouraged to review their tax records and address any discrepancies that could affect their transactions with government entities.
KRA said suppliers who require assistance with eTIMS onboarding, invoice generation or related matters can contact the authority through its available support channels.
The authority and the National Treasury said they will continue supporting stakeholders during the implementation and transition period.
This will include sensitisation programmes, technical support and relevant guidance aimed at facilitating the smooth adoption of the integrated eTIMS-IFMIS solution.
