Ruto Appoints Wilson Sossion to TSC in New State Appointments

President William Ruto has appointed former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary-General Wilson Sossion as a member of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for a six-year term.
According to a Gazette notice dated August 31, Sossion is among the new members appointed to the Teachers Service Commission for a period of six years.
“William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces appoint Antonina Lentoijoni, Wilson Sossion, to be Members of the Teachers Service Commission, for a period of six (6) years,” the notice states.

Sossion was appointed alongside Antonina Lentoijoni to oversee the management and regulation of teachers in Kenya’s public education system.
In a separate Gazette notice, Ruto appointed Duncan Ohuru Wang (Dr) as the Chairperson of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) for a six-year term.
The Gazette notice states that the appointment was made under Section 11(8) of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority Act.
He will succeed Justice Ahmed Issack Hassan, who resigned from his IPOA post in February this year to take up a role as a Judge of the Court of Appeal of Kenya.
“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 11 (8) of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority Act, L, William Samoer Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint- DUNCAN OHURU WANG (DR) to be the Chairperson of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority, for a period of six years,” read part of the gazette notice.
The President also appointed Flora Nduku Mutua as a member of the Public Service Commission (PSC) for a six-year term.
Retired Major General Appointed to Military Veterans Committee
These recent appointments come days after the President appointed Major General (Rtd) William Kitsao Karisa Shume as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Advisory Committee on Military Veterans.
Shume is a former senior Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer who joined the military in 1986 and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in 1988.
During his military career, he served in several senior positions, including Deputy Army Commander, General Officer Commanding the Border Security Command, and Infantry Brigade Commander.
He also held various operational and instructional roles and served in several international peace support missions.
Shume was promoted to the rank of Major General in 2020.
