Siblings Found Trying to Abandon Newborn Baby in Bush at Night

Kenyans online have been left angered after a video emerged showing siblings allegedly attempting to abandon a newborn baby in the bush at night.

In the video that is now circulating on social media, residents are heard questioning a young woman and her brother after spotting them trying to throw away the infant.

One of the people in the background is heard saying, “That little baby is beautiful, and she is hungry,” as residents rescued the newborn.

Voices in the background are heard saying the baby is a boy as they confront the two. The young woman is questioned about why she is throwing the baby away.

According to the conversation captured in the video, the sister had called her brother and told him life is hard and that she wants the brother to accompany her.

The brother is said to have been spotted in the act of throwing the baby.

Residents are seen intervening and advising the two siblings, telling them that there are designated places where children in distress can be taken for care instead of being abandoned.

The incident happened at night near a bushy area, with the crowd gathering around the mother and the newborn shortly after the act was noticed.

Reactions on X

Several people gave mixed reactions after seeing the video, with some users questioning why the brother was being beaten and arguing that it was not his fault.

“So the boy should be beaten while the girl who abandoned the baby is comforted? Oh, this is bad,” @Ndungu commented.

Others expressed sympathy for the mother, saying she looked scared and that both the mother and child need help.

Some users asked where abandoned children are taken, with one comment reading: “Watoi hupelekwa wapi nikizaa nipeleke musinipige.”

Children Welfare Officers

The exact location of the incident and the identities of the siblings had not been officially confirmed by police.

Child welfare officers have previously urged mothers facing hardship not to abandon their babies but to seek help from local chiefs, sub-county children officers, or nearby health facilities and children’s homes.
