Moja Expressway Breaks Silence on Viral Nairobi Expressway Robbery Claims

Moja Expressway has denied reports of a robbery along the Nairobi Expressway after an incident showing several people and vehicles on the highway went viral.

The footage sparked claims on social media that motorists had been confronted by suspected robbers in broad daylight, with the incident attracting widespread attention.

According to Citizen Digital, Moja Expressway has clarified that the scene was not a robbery. The company said the vehicles belonged to a political delegation that had briefly stopped along the highway.

Members of the delegation were reportedly switching vehicles before continuing with their journey.

The clarification came after the video was widely shared online, with users interpreting the scene as a possible security incident on the busy highway.

No robbery was reported at the location, according to findings cited by Citizen Digital. The explanation has since helped clear up what happened in the footage, which had triggered concern among motorists and members of the public.

Police probe viral robbery claims

Police also moved to establish whether a robbery had actually occurred after the video gained traction online.

Central Police Station OCPD Patrick Gogo reportedly directed officers to check several police stations for any complaints involving a robbery on the expressway. Nairobi Regional DCI boss Daniel Kandie also led a separate inquiry into the claims.

According to Citizen Digital, the searches did not find a robbery complaint or a person who had reported being robbed in connection with the incident.

Investigators went further and used vehicle registration details to trace a motorist whose car appeared in the background of the video.

The driver confirmed having passed the scene and said they had noticed a minor disturbance involving the vehicles, however, the motorist did not report witnessing a robbery.

Police have urged members of the public to exercise caution when sharing unverified information online. Anyone with credible information about a crime linked to the incident has been asked to report to a police station within Nairobi.
