Drama as Governor Lenku Lectured in Front of Ruto, Accused of Being Gachagua’s Mole 

Drama unfolded in Kajiado after Kajiado Central MP Elijah Memusi Kanchory challenged Governor Joseph Ole Lenku over his political alignment while addressing President William Ruto.

Memusi made the remarks on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Nguruman in Kajiado County, where Ruto toured development projects alongside local leaders, including Governor Ole Lenku.

“Mr President, on the ground, Lenku is on the side of DCP. And here, many of his supporters are people from DCP. But give us the opportunity to straighten him out and bring him into line. If Lenku wants to come to the government, we will respect him. If he does not come to the government, we will not even give him the respect of a village elder,” he said

Memusi Challenges Political Stand of Governor Ole Lenku

The remarks placed Ole Lenku at the centre of a political dispute over his position as parties and leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Memusi alleged that Lenku was leaning towards the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

He consequently urged Ruto to give local leaders an opportunity to challenge the governor over his political stand.

At the same time, Memusi praised Ruto for his development efforts in Kajiado.

“Mr President, here in Kajiado, I think you have seen our issues little by little. But Mr President, let me thank you for the work that you have done here in Kajiado,” he said.

However, the MP quickly shifted his focus to challenges facing the county government. He argued that Kajiado needed stronger support from the national government while accusing the county administration of failing to pay salaries and deliver development projects.

“Mr President, Kajiado needs the hand of the National Government. Here, these young people you see making noise are saying that the County Government of Lenku does not pay people salaries. And a young person can come here making noise and there is no development taking place in the County Government,” he said.

Memusi Questions Kajiado’s Performance

Beyond the political dispute, Memusi questioned the performance of the Kajiado County Government.

He cited a 9 per cent performance figure and used it to challenge Lenku over his criticism of the national government. Memusi also referred to remarks about a “marking scheme” as he questioned what the governor could tell residents about the county’s performance.

“I heard that whenever all County Governments are measured, Kajiado County gets 9 per cent. Now, a person who has completed his term and has 9 per cent, what is he coming to tell us here, Mr President? I heard this man talking about a marking scheme,” he said.

The confrontation comes as political competition intensifies in the Maa community ahead of the 2027 elections.
