Nelson Havi Clears Air on Going for Sifuna’s Seat

Former Law Society of Kenya president Nelson Havi has dismissed speculation that he plans to replace Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, insisting that his political ambitions remain focused on the Westlands parliamentary seat.

Speaking on NTV’s Fixing the Nation on Wednesday, September 16, Havi said his recent interaction with Sifuna had fuelled rumours that he could be preparing to take over the senator’s position.

“The people of Westlands, I’m running for MP, there are people who are spreading false rumours that because I was with my friend Sifuna, I’m going to replace him as Senator. That’s a lie.” Havi said.

Havi ended the clarification by reiterating that he is seeking a National Assembly seat rather than the Senate position.

“I’m running for MP, Westlands. Finito,” he said.

Havi’s Westlands Bid

Havi has been preparing for a second attempt at the Westlands parliamentary seat after unsuccessfully contesting the position in the 2022 General Election.

He ran on a United Democratic Alliance ticket and finished second to incumbent MP Tim Wanyonyi, who secured 58,408 votes against Havi’s 19,550. Havi later left UDA as he prepared for another attempt at the constituency.

In February 2026, Havi joined Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), with the party announcing that he would seek to represent Westlands in the National Assembly.

His renewed bid comes as other politicians position themselves for the Westlands contest ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Businessman Simon Komu has also declared interest in the seat on a DCP ticket, adding another aspirant within the party’s contest for the constituency.

Havi Addresses Sifuna Speculation

Sifuna currently serves as Nairobi’s senator, a position he won in the 2022 General Election. He is now positioning himself for the 2027 presidential race, having publicly expressed his interest in challenging for the presidency.

On September 14, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi said Linda Mwananchi would present Sifuna as its preferred presidential candidate.

With Sifuna linked to the presidential race, attention has also turned to the Nairobi Senate seat he currently occupies. Havi’s recent interaction with Sifuna added to the speculation, with the two politicians meeting on Tuesday, September 15.

The meeting led to claims that Havi could be preparing to take over the Senate seat if Sifuna leaves it to pursue the presidency.

Havi dismissed that speculation during the NTV interview, saying his political plans remain centred on the Westlands MP seat.
