Ruto to Attend 81st UN General Assembly in New York

President William Ruto will travel to the United States later this week to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) in New York, where he is expected to represent Kenya during high-level discussions on global issues.

Ruto will deliver Kenya’s national statement during the General Debate and hold strategic bilateral meetings focused on peace and security, climate finance, United Nations reform and digital cooperation.

Engagements are expected to bring together heads of state, international financial institutions and other global leaders.

The announcement was made during a media press briefing by PS Foreign Affairs Dr. Korir Sing’Oei on Wednesday, September 17, where officials said Ruto had agreed to attend the General Assembly following submissions that Kenya should be represented at the presidential level.

UNGA 81 will also address the implementation of UN80 reforms, the selection of the next UN Secretary-General and a high-level review of the global financial architecture.
