Moja Expressway Announces 40-Hour Traffic Diversion for CBD-Bound Motorists

Moja Expressway Company has announced a temporary traffic diversion for motorists travelling towards Nairobi’s CBD from James Gichuru Junction as maintenance and construction works are carried out along the Westlands overpass.

In a notice dated Friday, September 18, 2026, the Company announced that the works will begin on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 8:00 pm and continue until Monday, September 21, at noon.

CBD-bound motorists to use Waiyaki Way

During this period, motorists approaching the Nairobi Expressway Westlands Entrance from James Gichuru Junction will not use the elevated overpass deck.

Instead, they will be directed to the lower A8 road, commonly known as Waiyaki Way, before accessing the Westlands Entrance.

Moja Expressway said the entrance will remain fully operational despite the temporary diversion.

“CBD-bound motorists accessing the Nairobi Expressway Westlands Entrance should not use the elevated overpass deck, but instead utilize the lower A8 road (Waiyaki Way),” the company said in a public notice.

The temporary arrangement will specifically affect traffic travelling towards the CBD from the James Gichuru Junction side, with drivers expected to follow the alternative route during the maintenance period.

Motorists using the section have been advised to allow themselves additional time and remain alert when approaching the affected area.

Outbound traffic to resume normally

Moja Expressway said outbound traffic exiting the Nairobi Expressway towards the overpass will resume normal operations from Saturday, September 19, at 5:00pm.

Drivers have been urged to exercise caution and follow directions from traffic marshals stationed along the route while the works continue.

Motorists have also been advised to comply with temporary traffic arrangements to facilitate movement around the construction area.

The company apologised for any inconvenience caused by the maintenance works and thanked motorists for using the Nairobi Expressway.
