Omanga Sets Record Straight on Viral Claims of Appointment to Ruto’s Govt

Former nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has clarified that she is not the person appointed to the Board of Visitors of Shikusa Borstal Institution, despite a similarly named individual appearing in a recent government Gazette Notice.

In a statement dated September 19, Omanga said her full name is Millicent Nyaboke Omanga, distancing herself from the individual identified in the notice as Millicent Kerubo Omanga.

“Kwa majina yangu kamili ni Millicent NYABOKE Omanga ….. wale wa porojo poleni,” Omanga said.

Millicent Omanga Clarifies Her Full Name After Gazette Appointment

The clarification came after a gazette notice dated August 26, 2026, listed Millicent Kerubo Omanga among 10 people appointed to the Board of Visitors of Shikusa Borstal Institution.

According to the Gazette Notice, the appointments made by Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomenthe stated that the appointees were to serve for three years, with their terms taking effect on August 14, 2026.

Other members listed in the notice are Simon Barasa Muhindi, Masimbakosi Kusille Chimwani, Canon Mudy J. Peter, Moses Juma Pata, Peter Salik Kalwale, Peter Mwombe Juma, Sylvia Kwamboka Morwabe, Margaret Nasimiyu Mwonyonyo and Margaret Nanzala Wambia.

 Previous Government Appointments

Omanga has previously held government-appointed positions, including roles in state agencies and commissions.

In 2024, President William Ruto appointed her as a member of the Nairobi Rivers Commission, a body tasked with supporting efforts to restore and improve Nairobi’s river systems.

However, Omanga later declined the appointment, saying she was grateful for the President’s confidence but could not take up the position due to personal reasons.

She said she remained committed to supporting efforts to restore Nairobi’s rivers and would contribute in ways that aligned with her commitments at the time.

Elsewhere, Omanga was later appointed to the Board of Directors of Kenya Shipyards Limited, where she served as a board member before her appointment was revoked in 2026.

In a Gazette Notice issued by Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, the government revoked the appointment of Millicent Nyaboke Omanga as a member of the Kenya Shipyards Limited board, with the decision taking effect on April 30, 2026.
